Alison Ganong, M.D.
Dr. Alison Ganong is a board-certified, fellowship-trained physical medicine and rehabilitation and sports medicine physician, specializing in interventional sports medicine and spine care. She emphasizes obtaining an accurate diagnosis so that she can formulate an appropriate and effective treatment plan and a partnership with the patient and her other providers. She strives to help maximize people’s function, performance, and quality of life, with the goal of returning them to what they love.
A graduate of University of California Santa Barbara, Dr. Ganong earned her Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Nevada School of Medicine in Reno. She then spent 4 years at University of California Davis Medical Center in Sacramento to complete a physical medicine and rehabilitation residency before finishing an interventional spine, sports medicine, electrodiagnosis, and musculoskeletal ultrasound fellowship in Napa Valley, under the direction of Dr. Marko Bodor.
Dr. Ganong is a member of the International Spinal Intervention Society, American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, American College of Sports Medicine, and American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.
She treats sports or occupational-related orthopedic and spine injuries. Dr. Ganong is skilled in the use of many tools to advance the diagnosis and treatment plan, including musculoskeletal ultrasound, fluoroscopy, and electrodiagnostics. She uses these modalities to provide treatments, such as accurate joint and tendon injections, spinal transforaminal and interlaminar epidural injections, spinal facet joint injections or radiofrequency ablations, and nerve blocks.
In addition to her regular practice, she travels as a physician with the U.S. Ski Team and has worked as the co-medical director of IRONMAN Lake Tahoe. She has also been a physician for other organizations and events, including the Rahlves Banzai Tour, AMGEN Tour of California, and Sacramento Sirens Women’s Tackle Football.
Dr. Ganong grew up in the North Lake Tahoe region and returned to the area to practice. Downhill ski racing was a passion of hers while raised in Alpine Meadows, and she has continued to embrace the Tahoe lifestyle as an avid downhill and Nordic skier and outdoor enthusiast.
Available to see patients in Truckee and Incline Village, Dr. Ganong provides sports medicine care at our Tahoe Forest Sports Medicine & Therapy Services and Incline Village Community Hospital locations.
